Photography, the way it was meant to be seen. printed, not scrolled.

18 months of work, travel up and down the east coast and out to the desert, thousands of images taken, all finely curated into one story about the wonder of north american biomes.

What is Biomes?

Biomes is an 80 page curated photo journey through the diverse biomes of the United States and the wildlife, mainly birds, that live there. An 18 month journey of waking up way too early, staying out too late, chasing light, getting muddy, missing shots, and sometimes getting it right.

It’s not a greatest hits book. It’s a painfully curated story, of the places, the birds, and the moments that stuck with me.

Meet the Versions

Premium Edition

This is the version I made for myself. It’s a 12×12 hardcover printed on premium luster paper, with big spreads and bold color. Printed on demand through Blurb.

It’s expensive, but I want to be clear about why. Blurb’s cut is $151 just to print it. This was never about making money. It was about creating something high quality that I’d be proud to keep on my own shelf.

Mini Edition

This book was meant to be seen in print, the spreads are all designed to flow that way. Thats why I also designed a 2nd version to be a little more approachable. This 7x7 version is printed on standard paper, consider it the mini version.

Like the hardcover, I’ve kept the markup low so more people can actually hold it.

01.

Fact 1

This book exists because my 9-year-old wanted to take pictures of birds. I figured I’d tag along. Now here we are: 18 months, thousands of photos, and one obsessed dad later.

02.

Fact 2

Every owl in this book saw me first. I’ve never spotted one before it spotted me, and I doubt I ever will. They’re smug like that.

03.

Fact 3

I drove all the way to Maine to photograph puffins from a blind. The boat couldn’t land. I nearly tossed the photos, but they ended up changing how I shoot and edit forever.

04.

Fact 4

I spent 11 hours straight at Mesa Arch for two photos. The Milky Way on one side. The sunrise on the other. Worth it? Yeah. But bring a chair. And snacks.
